Travel through the past and present of Buenos Aires through a stroll over its main historical centers. Starting in La Boca district, a picturesque neighborhood famous for Tango and Football, and its colorful Caminito, we will go through the corners traced by Italian immigrants visiting their rusty tenement houses known as “conventillos” and the old port.

Then, we will visit the bohemian town of San Telmo and walk along its narrow cobble-stoned streets, which used to be beds of streams that connected to the mystical Rio de la Plata. This stop will include the Ezeiza Palace, antique stores, and its large indoor Market, unique in town.

This tour will give you some clues about the genocide that devastated the country during the 1970s, taking the lives of close to 30,000 people. The historical importance and the legacy of Eva Duarte, “Evita”, are unquestionable. But nothing is above debate for Argentineans. Her leadership continues to generate controversy till today. This is why we intend to face the mighty task of touring the city of Buenos Aires to explore the lights and the shadows of her life through those iconic places where her memory is kept alive.

We will start in the mythical Plaza de Mayo, the stage for some of Perón and Evita’s more memorable speeches. We will continue to the see the Ministry of Public Works, a massive tower that looms over the 9 de Julio Avenue, to appreciate the “Mural de Evita”, a giant mural with Evita´s portrait which occupies both the Southern and Northern side of this building.

We will drive then through the lavish district of Recoleta, home of Perón’s main enemies (“the oligarchy”, as he called them), to visit Evita’s tomb in the Recoleta cemetery. We will pass by the National Library, (built there after Peron and Evita´s residence was demolished) to catch a glimpse of Evita´s Monument. We wil end at Museo Evita, a former halfway house to underprivileged single mothers during the Peronist administrations.

To get on topic, we will stop by some of its most significant landmarks such as Plaza de Mayo (May Square), political hub of the country, and the place where many people first heard of the atrocities of the military government through the peaceful demonstrations of the mothers of the desaparecidos, soon after called Madres de Plaza de Mayo (Mothers of May Square); ESMA, the biggest and most feared detention center transformed into the Museum of Memory, a space that invites to ponder on State terrorism and the struggle for democracy.

The Tigre neighborhood is situated in the Delta of Parana River, formed by the confluence of the Paraná and the Uruguay rivers, just 30 km from Buenos Aires and considered one of the largest deltas in the World. On your way, enjoy sightseeing of the Northern districts of the city, the famous Rio de la Plata, and make a stop in San Isidro, a former colonial town where the wealthiest porteños used to have their weekend homes. 

Once in Tigre, adventure will start. Paddle for around two hours, in stable Canadian canoes, along the different rivers that form this delta, through narrow channels of lush vegetation, to see these secret natural gardens and the daily life of islanders in their picturesque homes, built on palafitos. Stop to taste a typical Argentinian picada at some nice spot in the islands and return to town.

If you’re looking for a taste of rural, Pampas life and gaucho culture, this is the perfect tour.

The day begins driving north from Buenos Aires to the traditional town of San Antonio de Areco (just 1.5 hours away from the city), well-known for its quiet streets and beautiful colonial houses, and for being the most important center of silver craftsmanship in the country.

You’ll first visit the workshop of one of the best silversmiths in town, who will show you his house and work.

Then, after a quick tour of the town, you’ll continue on to a nearby active estancia (ranch), where you’ll spend the day learning about and partaking in ranch culture and activities.

Included in the visit is horseback riding, sulky (carriage) folk shows with live music and dancers, demonstrations of “Doma india” (traditional Argentine horse whispering) or “tropilla” (herd of horses).

You’ll also be able to hike, cycle, swim, and/or go birdwatching, as long as you’ve got good weather.

Whenever lunch rolls around, everyone will sit down to a traditional asado (barbecue) feast.

Before departing, your hosts will prepare “mate” for everyone to try pastelitos (pastries). Finally, you’ll make the 1.5 hour drive back to Buenos Aires.
