Roberto has been leading guided tours all over the Campania region for more than a decade.
Having obtained his bachelors degree in Cultural Heritage, a masters degree in Classical Archaeology, and a post-graduate diploma Archeological Heritage, he is uniquely well-qualified to help visitors discover and experience the archaeological sites and ruins of this region. He’s been a licensed guide since 2011 and has welcomed thousands of travelers to Campania, the Amalfi Coast, and beyond.
A native of Salerno and a practicing archaeologist, his specialty is touring the region’s ancient sites such as Paestum, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. A proponent of the Slow Food movement, which aims to preserve and promote traditional local cuisines, Roberto also loves taking his travelers to local restaurants, farms, and producers who create delicacies found only in Campania.

Join me on a walking tour in the historical center of Salerno. It is my hometown and it's a characteristic sea town located between the paradise of Amalfi Coast and the charming Cilento. Salernum was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century B. C. but the most important period for the city was in the middle ages. After the destruction of the Roman Empire in Italy the Lombards created a dukedom in Campania and Salerno became its capital.
In this time Salerno was one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean sea. Here was founded the first Medical School around the end of the 9th century A.D. We'll go to discover the history and the architecture of the medieval time with a visit into the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, a spectacular example of Arab-Norman architecture. This church also contains a beautiful crypt in Baroque style.

Join me in this archaeological tour! As your personal Archaeologist I will be happy to share my knowledge with you. Herculaneum was buried by the eruption of the Vesuvius in the 79 A. D. by about 20 meters (60 feet) of pyroclastic material. For this reason here you can see very well preserved entire buildings in two floors.
At the moment only about the 30% of the ancient city is excavated and the ruins show us a lot of private buildings that conserved carbonized wooden furniture of the Roman times. Nowadays Herculaneum is not very known like its "big sister" Pompeii and for this reason the visit here is less crowded and more quiet and intimate.

Poseidonia was founded by the Greeks at the end of the 7th century BC. The name was related to the Greek god Poseidon, protector of the sea. This archaeological area is now one of the best preserved cities from the times of Greek colonization.
We will go to discover the evolution of this ancient city from the Greeks to the Romans through the ruins of temples dedicated to Athena, Hera, Apollo and Zeus.
In Paestum we will visit also the incredible National Museum that show us some of the most important artifacts of Greek and Roman times, where is possible to see the painted Tomb of the Diver, a masterpiece of 2500 years ago.
